Announcing the Passing of Yasuchika Hasegawa, Former President and CEO of Takeda | Takeda Pharmaceuticals

OSAKA, Japan and CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, September 11, 2026 – With deep sadness, Takeda announced that Yasuchika Hasegawa, former Representative Director, President and CEO of Takeda from 2003-2014, passed away on July 3, 2026. Takeda shares this today aligned to Mr. Hasegawa's family's wishes.

Mr. Hasegawa joined Takeda in 1970 and held a number of leadership positions, including responsibility for the Company’s European business, before being appointed President in 2003. During his tenure as President, he strongly advanced the expansion of Takeda’s global business, significantly broadening the Company’s business foundation worldwide through major M&A transactions, including the acquisition of Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in the United States in 2008 and Nycomed in Switzerland in 2011. From 2011 to April 2015, he also served as Chairman of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, making significant contributions not only to the pharmaceutical industry but also to the broader development of the Japanese economy.

“Mr. Hasegawa led Takeda and the Japanese business community with exceptional decision-making and extraordinary leadership, laying the foundation for the global company we are today,” said Julie Kim, Representative Director, President and CEO of Takeda. “We are saddened by his passing, and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all those who knew him.”

A private funeral service was held for close family members. No additional memorial is planned. The family respectfully declines condolence visits and other expressions of sympathy.
