OSAKA, Japan and CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, September 10, 2026 – Takeda (TSE:4502/NYSE:TAK) has announced that Andy Plump, M.D., Ph.D., President Research & Development (and member of the Board of Directors), will retire from Takeda, effective June 2027. Dr. Plump will remain an active member of the Takeda Executive Team and will continue to lead R&D until a successor has been announced. He will remain a member of the company’s Board of Directors through the Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders in June 2027. Once a new President of R&D has been named, Andy will work closely with his successor to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of responsibilities to ensure continued progress and maintain momentum toward global regulatory submissions and approvals.

Takeda Representative Director, President & CEO Julie Kim commented: “Andy has led Takeda’s R&D through a significant period of transformation and growth. Under his leadership, Takeda’s pipeline was rebuilt with an innovative therapeutic area focus and we now have a robust late-stage pipeline which has delivered three transformative medicines that we are poised to launch in the coming months. On behalf of Takeda’s Board of Directors, our leadership team and colleagues around the world, we thank Andy for his unwavering dedication and visionary leadership. His contributions have advanced groundbreaking science, strengthened our R&D organization and developed exceptional talent, creating a lasting foundation to serve patients for years to come.” After Dr. Plump joined Takeda, he orchestrated a multi-year strategic and cultural transformation of R&D that resulted in a renewed focus on innovation, a streamlined global footprint and prioritized therapeutic areas of focus and created a network of partnerships and a diverse portfolio of newly approved and promising experimental therapies.

Dr. Plump has played a pivotal role in Takeda’s transformation into a global biopharmaceutical company since 2015. Under his leadership, Takeda has strengthened its leadership in orexin biology with the U.S. FDA approval of ORZEYFUL™ for narcolepsy type 1, while also receiving approval of MIMRYLO™ for erythrocytosis in adults with polycythemia vera. The organization has also developed numerous Phase 3 assets including zasocitinib, a highly selective TYK2 inhibitor poised to become a leading oral psoriasis treatment.

This leadership transition comes as Takeda executes its two-horizon growth strategy, a roadmap designed to move the company from transformation to growth acceleration. Horizon One strengthens Takeda’s competitiveness and builds a growth engine by launching three new medicines, advancing the late-stage pipeline, ensuring the resilience of core in-line brands and unlocking new capabilities and efficiencies. Horizon Two builds on Horizon One’s foundation by scaling the first wave of launches, introducing the next wave of products from the late-stage pipeline, improving speed and efficiency through advanced technology and accelerating long-term profitable growth and patient impact.

Dr. Plump commented: “It has been the privilege of a lifetime to lead Takeda’s R&D organization and work alongside colleagues so deeply committed to patients. I am proud of the progress we have made together and confident in Takeda’s scientific foundation, talented teams and continued ability to deliver life-changing medicines.”
