While vaccines, anti-malaria nets and antibiotics save lives, strong health systems are essential to make them truly accessible, affordable and acceptable to everyone. In order to realize and achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), national health systems must shift from aid dependency to sustainable self-sufficiency, based on strong government commitment and the design and financing of a strong health system.

Leaders Driving Change: Henrietta Fore, Executive Director, UNICEF


Biography: Henrietta Fore is executive director of UNICEF. Previously, she was Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Director of United States Foreign Assistance. She has also held numerous leadership positions in the U.S. Departments of State and Treasury. She was Board Chair and CEO of Holsman International and led numerous international initiatives.
