CDP Driving Sustainable EconomiesThe Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the international, not-for-profit organization which evaluates companies’ environmental performance, recently announced its 2014 Climate Change disclosure and performance results. Shire has achieved our highest score ever and one which is well above both the pharmaceutical industry average and the FTSE average.

Shire’s disclosure score of 91% - compared with a 78% pharmaceutical industry average and 77% FTSE average - demonstrates our unique standing and ongoing motivation to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on natural resources. Among the categories included in the CDP assessment are governance and strategy, risk and opportunity management, emissions management, and verification.

Shire’s performance score was also higher than the FTSE average, solidifying our commitment to environmental sustainability, with a risk and opportunity management score of 100% and a governance and strategy score of 85% compared with industry averages of 75% for both categories.  Emissions management and verification scores also scored above and on par with industry averages.

“Shire’s 2014 CDP scores are a tremendous achievement,” says Stephanie Horwath, Shire’s Head of Health, Safety and Environment.  “These scores reflect our momentum and progress in identifying opportunities, benchmarking performance, and monitoring our agenda toward environmental sustainability.”
