Joining the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD)
PQMD is a unique alliance of non-profit humanitarian aid organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device/supply manufacturers committed to bringing a measurable health impact to under-served and vulnerable people through active engagement with global partners and local communities. Members of PQMD and their partners combine donations of prescription pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter products, medical devices and sup- plies with cash, volunteers, training and other services to support a wide range of global health programs.
PQMD members work together with multilateral, national and sub-national governments, other companies, and international non-governmental organizations to pursue disease eradication, develop healthcare infrastructure, build the capacity of in-country healthcare workers, and fill gaps in local health- related services.
Donna Roman, Senior Director of Philanthropy & Patient Services for Shire’s HGT business will serve on the Board of PQMD. “PQMD is a valuable forum for Shire because it promotes best practices and collaboration for health initiatives where charitable donations of products are involved,” she says. “We’ll be contributing to the dialogue and benefiting from the expertise of PQMD members as we build a robust product donations program that will benefit patients in need around the world.”
“We are fortunate to have Shire as our newest member,” says Pat Bacuros, who chairs PQMD. “Shire’s expertise in rare diseases will bring new and important perspectives to PQMD.”
