DEERFIELD, Ill., December 7, 2016 – The Human Rights Campaign Foundation has named Takeda a best place to work for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. The company’s perfect score of 100 in the HRC’s 2017 Corporate Equality Index was earned on its first year of submitting an application for this award.
The Corporate Equality Index is a national benchmarking tool developed in 2002 that measures an organization's policies and practices designed to create equity for LGBT employees. According to the Human Rights Campaign, only a few hundred companies globally spanning all industries and nations earn a perfect score each year. Benchmark criteria for the Corporate Equality Index increase every year, pushing employers to meet ever-higher standards.
To earn this distinction, Takeda submitted information about its non-discrimination policy, company-sponsored insurance coverage for domestic partners and transgender-inclusive individuals, diversity training, the company’s ‘Take Pride’ employee resource group, details about corporate sponsorship of organizations that further education and provide resources about the LGBT community; and other efforts that it has in place to ensure an inclusive work environment.
“We’re delighted to have received this perfect rating from the HRC,” said Laurene Giagnorio, senior vice president, human resources and administration, Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc. “Maintaining an inclusive culture where employees feel safe to bring all of themselves to work is a high priority and key to our success. Providing everything from flexible work paths to employee resource groups demonstrates our deep respect for everyone on our team, which is acknowledged by this and the many other workplace awards Takeda is honored to have received. Takeda’s award-winning workplace ensures we attract and retain the finest talent to create innovative solutions for our patients.”
This award from the HRC joins a long list of workplace awards Takeda has earned based on its employee policies and programs. Takeda recently was included for the fourth year in the Working Mother 100 Best Companies list, as well.
