Pedalling in support of rare disease research

June 13, 2019
Takeda Canada joins forces yet again with the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie

Toronto, Ontario – For the fourth straight year, employees from Takeda Canada will put on their bike shorts and jerseys to join the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, raising funds and bringing awareness to the journey of patients and their caregivers affected by rare disease and other specialized conditions across Quebec.

The annual 1,000 km event is a relay-type marathon across Quebec from June 13-16 that challenges the endurance and stamina of cyclists. Takeda is continuing its exclusive sponsorship of the webcast of the 1,000 km event, providing live video of the 60-hour cycling course as it winds through municipalities from the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region to Montréal.

“Takeda Canada is pleased to continue our partnership with the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, and support cyclists making the trek across Quebec in support of this important cause,” says Gamze Yüceland, General Manager of Takeda Canada. “The dedication I see in the eyes of our cycling team, and their commitment to the cause of helping Canadians affected by rare disease, is truly inspiring,”

Taking on that challenge are six employees who make up the Takeda Canada RARE cycling team, bringing a variety of experiences and stories that drive them. You can learn more about the individual team members and their stories on LinkedIn here:

Denis Laflamme, Takeda Canada’s Associate Director - Government Affairs for Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, will once again lead the RARE Cycling Team as its Captain. “I feel very privileged to be able to head up our team for the fourth consecutive year, and to be able to count on all of my colleagues to support not only rare disease awareness and research, but also healthier lifestyle habits for youth. Leading by example is the best way to inspire the next generation,” he says.

As part of its efforts, Takeda Canada has also selected a worthy elementary school as a recipient of a portion of the funds raised in 2019, partnering with École Saint-Jacques in Shawinigan, Quebec, to promote healthy life habits among the students and wider community.
