Deeply rooted history in Belgium

Takeda Belgium’s roots go back to 1835, with the creation of Christaens NV, which became Nycomed after a merger with Sanders Probel. In 2007, Nycomed acquired Altana Pharma, a large German pharmaceutical company, and gained considerable strength in the Belgian market. In 2011, the company became part of the Takeda Group and was renamed Takeda Belgium. In 2018, Takeda acquired Tigenix, a Belgian biotech company specialized in autologous stem cell therapy for the treatment of auto-immune and inflammatory diseases. With the acquisition of Shire in 2019, Takeda accelerated its transformative journey - in Belgium as well -further devoting itself to specialty care and becoming a leader in rare diseases.
