Company Has Donated More Than $500,000 to Local Charities Since Program Began
Deerfield, Ill., Oct. 2, 2015 – For the fifth consecutive year, Takeda Pharmaceutical employees are gathering at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Deerfield to raise money for local nonprofit organizations in health, science education and community vitality as part of the company’s annual Takeda Cares Day.
To celebrate the event’s five-year milestone, the company expanded Takeda Cares Day to 50 additional locations across the U.S., extending impact to communities nationwide. Additionally, more than 767 employees will run or walk 5K at the Deerfield campus today. Takeda will donate $100 to local nonprofits on behalf of each participant.
In honor of the company’s commitment to science education, it will also provide funding to eight local schools. Funds will support science curriculum. In total, Takeda will gift Chicago nonprofit and education recipients more than $250,000.

This year’s nonprofit recipients include:
Providing Advocacy, Dignity and Shelter (PADS) Lake County - provides emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, and comprehensive resources to families with children and individuals experiencing homelessness in Lake County. Funds will be used to shelter those who are experiencing homelessness and help people get out of homelessness and back into housing.
“We appreciate and rely on support from community members like Takeda,” said Joel Williams, executive director of PADS Lake County. “We will be able to provide almost 3000 nights of shelter thanks to the efforts of Takeda employees. Thank you for working to make a difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness in Lake County.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago – local chapter of national organization that empowers at-risk youth by providing high impact one-to-one mentoring that enables lifelong success. Funds will be used to support 200 children in Lake County programs focused on health, nutrition and physical fitness.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lake County – advocacy group for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the juvenile court system. Funds will be used to provide the benefits of a CASA volunteer to more than 25 of the most vulnerable children in the community.
Nonprofits that have previously received donations from Takeda Cares Day include, Community Health,Chicago Family Health Center and United Way Lake County. Through the donations that these groups have received, they have funded numerous community programs including medical education and after school programs.
