Takeda Cares Day Raises More Than $70,000 For Chicagoland Nonprofits

October 3, 2014

Employees Collectively Run or Walk More Than 2,000 Miles for Charity

Deerfield, Ill., Oct. 3, 2014 – Takeda, a top 15 global pharmaceutical company, will once again engage employees to raise money for local nonprofit organizations today when they participate in the fourth annual Takeda Cares Day event on the company’s Deerfield campus.

This year, more than 700 employees will run or walk a 5K course on the trail that encircles the company’s campus. For their efforts, Takeda will donate $100 on behalf of each employee who participates. All funds will go to one of three community organizations, as pre-selected by the participating employee, with approximately $73,500 being raised. Takeda Cares Day will also host speakers from the local community organizations who will have the opportunity to speak on behalf of their organizations’ work.

Takeda strives toward better health and a brighter future through leading innovation in medicine for people worldwide. This commitment is magnified when its employees engage in events designed to promote health, such as Takeda Cares Day. The event also brings an opportunity for employees to make a difference in the community, in addition to their personal efforts, through Takeda’s corporate giving programs, which align with the company’s three focus areas – health, science education and community vitality.

Donation Recipients
In its fourth year, the event was created to advance Takeda’s philanthropic commitment to the Chicagoland area and to promote employee camaraderie. This year’s beneficiaries are dedicated to the following causes:

Illinois FIRST – A not-for-profit organization devoted to helping young people discover and develop a passion for science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) and robotics.

Nicasa – A behavioral health, substance abuse prevention and treatment agency based in Lake County. As an independent nonprofit agency, its mission is to empower and promote healthy lifestyles to prevent and treat substance abuse, addiction and other risky behaviors.

Providing Advocacy, Dignity and Shelter (PADS) Lake County – Provides immediate, critical services for needy individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Lake County. Primary services include an assessment center and day shelter, emergency overnight shelter, a Family Center, veteran services, a safe haven and street outreach.

“PADS Lake County sincerely appreciates the support Takeda employees show by running and walking at Takeda Cares Day and is excited to be part of this year’s event,” said Stephen Love, development assistant at PADS Lake County. “Through their support, Takeda and its employees will have a direct and positive impact on those in the area desperately needing emergency shelter and support.”
