On 10 February 2020, the BOIC and the biopharmaceutical company, Takeda, signed a partnership with regard to the Olympic Games which will be held this summer in the Japanese capital from 24 July to 9 August. The agreement runs until 31 December of this year.

Takeda was established almost 240 years ago in Japan, and today is a patient-focused, values-based, R&D-driven global biopharmaceutical company committed to bringing Better Health and a Brighter Future to people worldwide. Also in Belgium Takeda’s footprint is important with an 18000m² global production facility and over 1200 employees in total. In the Belgian market, we focus on therapeutic areas such as Gastroenterology, Oncology, Rare Diseases and Prescription and Over-the-Counter Medicines.

Philippe Vander Putten, CEO of the BOIC: “We are pleased that Takeda is committed to continue our 'Road to Tokyo' together with us as a partner. Of course we hope that the support of a partner with Japanese roots will bring luck to our athletes in Tokyo! I warmly welcome Takeda to Team Belgium".Laurent Henaux, General Manager of Takeda Belgium: “As no other, we understand that sports and daily motion are vital for physical fitness. What better way to translate our philosophy than to officially support Team Belgium on their Road to Tokyo this year. This partnership not only taps into our Japanese heritage, but it also absolutely builds on a very strong value fit between the Olympic Values and the Takeda core values of integrity, honesty, transparency and of course perseverance. Values that are used as a guiding compass by all of our employees, every day. Needless to say that connecting with the Olympic brand, one of the strongest brands in the world, makes me - and the whole organisation with me - very proud. We are convinced that Team Belgium will shine in the land of the rising sun.”
