Vegetable garden at Neuchâtel manufacturing site

Employees at Neuchâtel site run their own vegetable garden

In 2021, 60 employees at our Neuchâtel manufacturing site created a collective vegetable garden on the premises of the site. More than 1,000 square meters were transformed into a permaculture area.

Employees manage their own or shared piece of land through a collective self-managed initiative, allowing to grow and harvest their own fruits & vegetables.

The garden was designed by a permaculture designer who provided employees with online training. Three months after the garden opened, employees began plating their own organic vegetables.

In addition, employees came together to build a hedgehog house, fill insect hostels and plant berry trees to facilitate biodiversity.

World Environment Day celebrated in Hikari

To mark World Environment Day 2022 (WED), the Hikari Plant organized various events and activities to raise environmental awareness. About 330 participants, including Hikari colleagues and their families, external partners and their employees as well as local elementary school children came to the Nijigahama Coast to release flounder fry into the Seto Inland Sea, test the ocean water for micro-plastics and clean up the beach.

Every year, the Hikari Plant hosts local events tailored to the region to celebrate WED. This year, Global Sustainability Team participated as well, emphasizing to participants the importance of regularly hosting and participating in such activities.
