Working With Communities to Help Build Foundations for a New Life
Supporting recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake.
* As of December 2019
Supporting the Supporters
As well as supporting initiatives focused on building new lives for residents impacted by the Great East Japan Earthquake, we also recognize the importance of supporting the supporters—including leaders of NPOs engaged in recovery efforts who were also victims of the disaster. Local businesses and organizations play an important role in recovery by providing sustainable funding and manpower. Our activities help ensure that the people behind these have the resources needed to continue their essential work.
Sustainable Support Leveraging the Power of Community
The key to ensuring that recovery activities are sustainable is the provision of spaces where people in the local area can get together and form connections. Recognizing this, we also support NPOs and other organizations that work at such places and who are actively encouraging the establishment of partnerships.
Supporting Emotional Recovery in Tohoku
Although towns have now been relocated to higher ground, as of 2019, the building of seawalls and breakwaters is still ongoing.
While the focus is usually on the rebuilding of physical infrastructure, the emotional recovery of those whose lives were impacted by the disaster is another key aspect in the rehabilitation of communities.
