• The Takeda-Plan Healthcare Access Program Activities in Japan and Asia The Plan Japan, which assists children in developing countries, is a member of Plan International, a global NGO registered by the United Nations that is active in 65 countries throughout the world. In August 2009, Takeda partnered with Plan Japan to start the Takeda-Plan Healthcare Access Program. Improving the health of children in developing countries requires measures that match the differing needs of each region. There are often significant differences from country to country concerning needs involving public hygiene, nutrition, healthcare services and disease prevention. The Takeda-Plan program will operate in China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. The aim is to conduct extensive activities for giving children better access to healthcare. All four individual projects to take place as part of the Takeda-Plan program will help contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals* that were established by the United Nations

• 18 Stakeholder's Voice Working to contribute to society as a responsible corporate citizen in the local community CSR Activity in France For the past six years, Laboratoires Takeda (LT) and the French Association of Friedreich's Ataxia (AFAF) have been collaborating to promote diagnosis of Friedreich's ataxia and distribution of information to patients and health professionals. Friedreich's ataxia is a rare genetic neurological disease characterized by difficulties in coordinating movements associated with neurological signs. It is a progressive disease, rendering sufferers unable to walk unaided within 10 to 20 years of its onset. The rarity of the disease means there is often a lack of awareness and comprehension among patients and their loved ones. In 2007, the fourth year of collaboration between AFAF and LT, LT began a volunteer assistance program. The 12-month DELOS study will enroll up to 240 patients in 25 centers in Europe and North America. SNT-MC17, which has been granted orphan drug designation in the EU, could become the first approved product for the treatment of FRDA and will be marketed in Europe by Santhera’s partner Takeda. • Liestal, Switzerland and Osaka, Japan, August 3, 2005 -- Santhera Pharmaceuticals AG ("Santhera") of Switzerland and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited ("Takeda") of Japan announced today that they will collaborate to develop and commercialize Idebenone (SNT-MC17), a small molecule drug for the treatment of Friedreich's Ataxia ("FRDA"). The clinical development for FRDA is about to enter a Phase III clinical study in Europe and will enter a Phase III study in the US shortly thereafter.
