Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited

Approval of an Additional Indication of
“Takepron® Capsules 15” and “Takepron® OD Tablets 15” for Prevention of Recurrence of NSAIDs-Associated Gastric Ulcer/Duodenal Ulcer in Japan

Osaka, Japan, August 20, 2010 --- Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (“Takeda”) today announced that an additional indication of “Takepron® Capsules 15” and “Takepron® OD Tablets 15” for prevention of recurrence of NSAIDs(*)-associated gastric ulcer/duodenal ulcer was approved by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Takepron is a proton pump inhibitor with indications for gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer and reflux esophagitis, discovered by Takeda and was launched in 1992 in Japan.
(*) Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs

NSAIDs are mainly prescribed for the treatment of pain and inflammation. Its administration for a long period sometimes causes gastric or duodenal ulcer, however, discontinuing of administration may deteriorate quality of life of patients especially with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Therefore, it is considered that the extended use of NSAIDs while preventing an onset of ulcers is important.

“Takepron is the only medicine in Japan that has indications for prevention of recurrence of ulcers during low-dose aspirin and NSAIDs administration,” said Yasuhiko Yamanaka, a member of the Board, Senior Vice President, Pharmaceutical Marketing Division of Takeda. “We expect that Takepron helps patients, who have a history of ulcers and have to take low-dose aspirin or NSAIDs, to prevent recurrence of ulcers.”

There is no modification in our financial outlook for the fiscal year 2010.
