Takeda Expands International Operations Leadership

Osaka, Japan, July 30, 2010 -Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited ("Takeda") today announced that effective August 1, 2010 the International Operations organization will be further strengthened with the appointment of a Senior Vice President (SVP) responsible for ex-Japan Asia commercial activities. This change will further enhance the company’s structure to accelerate Takeda’s global strategies and enable the management team in each region to most effectively address the local business environment.

Frank Morich, M.D., Ph.D. has been appointed EVP, International Operations (Americas/Europe), and as previously announced, the role will be effective October 1, 2010. Dr. Morich will be located in Deerfield, Illinois. Mr. Haruhiko Hirate, current Corporate Officer, has been appointed SVP, International Operations (Asia) effective August 1, 2010. Mr. Hirate will be located in Tokyo, Japan. Both Dr. Morich and Mr. Hirate will directly report to Yasuchika Hasegawa, President & CEO of Takeda. Mr. Alan MacKenzie, current EVP, International Operations, will have responsibility for the Americas and Europe until Dr. Morich’s arrival October 1, 2010.

Takeda is now implementing a variety of strategies to launch new products and to maximize the value of such new products in the Americas, Europe and Asia to achieve the transformation into a New Takeda set forth in the company’s 2010-2012 Mid-Range Plan that will ensure sustainable growth. Takeda’s sales channels will be expanded into those countries and regions where the higher growth rate of the pharmaceutical market is foreseen, including emerging markets.

“The appointment of Dr. Morich and Mr. Hirate to Takeda’s International Operations leadership team will further strengthen our entire global management and operations structure,” said Yasuchika Hasegawa. “Both individuals bring significant experience and expertise in international business, which we will leverage by establishing and implementing optimal sales and marketing strategies, respectively in the Americas and the European markets, that represent approximately two thirds of the global pharmaceutical market, and in the Asian market which is showing a notable growth.”
