Takeda Appoints Two Executive-level Personnel from Outside the Company

Osaka, Japan, June 28, 2010 --- Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (“Takeda”) announced at the extraordinary Board of Directors’ Meeting held on June 25th, 2010, it resolved to appoint Frank Morich, M.D., Ph.D. as Executive Vice President (EVP), International Operations, effective October 1, 2010, and also to appoint Mr. Haruhiko Hirate as Corporate Officer, Senior Vice President, effective July 1, 2010.

Dr. Frank Morich, after holding important roles in Bayer AG, is currently CEO of NOXXON Pharma, and also is one of the Takeda Global Advisory Board[*] members. As EVP, International Operations, Dr. Frank Morich will be responsible for enhancing Takeda’s commercial operations and the company’s presence outside Japan.

Dr. Morich will succeed Mr. Alan MacKenzie who announced his retirement earlier this year after 25 years of service to Takeda. Mr. MacKenzie currently is the founding EVP of the International Operations organization, and until most recently served as a member of the Takeda Board of Directors.

Mr. Haruhiko Hirate , after holding the president position in Roche Diagnostics K.K., Japan and Banyu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., was Senior Managing Director and Representative Director of Glaxo SmithKline, K.K., Japan until recently where he was in charge of overall sales and marketing functions. As Corporate Officer, Senior Vice President, Mr. Haruhiko Hirate will contribute to the management and operation of the company with his expertise and experience.

TGAB was established in June 2009, and consists of four external Advisors with executive level experience at global pharmaceutical companies. The TGAB discusses variety of managerial topics with Takeda’s top management and provides the company with valuable guidance which is being reflected in the management strategies of Takeda.
