Takeda Selected for Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index 2009

November 13, 2009, Osaka, Japan – Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (Osaka, Japan, “Takeda”) announced today that it has received the honor of being selected for the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) 2009 as one of the companies in Japan which have taken the most advanced approaches to emissions disclosure.

Compiled by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) – a global project which encourages businesses to both disclose and reduce their CO2 emissions – the CDLI lists companies which demonstrate excellent strategies and information disclosure based on the results of annual questionnaires with cooperation from key institutional investors to leading companies around the world.

For CDP2009, the questionnaire was sent to approximately 4,000 companies, including some 500 in Japan. This year, 31 Japanese companies were listed for superior disclosure of their approaches to climate change and strategies for reducing CO2 emissions.

In line with its 9th five-year energy conservation program ending March 31, 2011, Takeda is aggressively pursuing activities for energy conversion and efficient energy use at its key manufacturing facilities, with the prospect of meeting its self-set target to reduce CO2 emissions by 40 percent (a reduction of 30 percent for the Takeda Group as a whole) compared to the level in fiscal 2005 by the end of fiscal 2010. Meanwhile, the target for the next five-year program is being considered taking into account the Japanese government’s medium-term goal in the combat against global warming (reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020, if compared to the 1990 level).

As a pharmaceutical company operating globally, Takeda believes that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is one of its most important responsibilities. Accordingly, Takeda will remain committed to reducing CO2 emissions, while at the same time ensuring the transparency of its endeavors through proactive disclosure.
