Takeda to begin Construction of New Research Facilities

OSAKA, Japan, December 2, 2008 --- Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (“Takeda”) today announced that it is to begin construction of new research facilities which straddle the border of the cities of Fujisawa and Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Following the completion of an environmental impact report in accordance with Kanagawa Prefectural Ordinances, Takeda will commence on December 3 by demolishing buildings on the site, which was formerly the Company’s Shonan Plant. Takeda anticipates the start of construction of the new facilities in May 2009 and the completion of construction before the end of fiscal 2010.

Takeda looks forward to continuing its open dialogue with and asks for the continuing cooperation and support of the prefectural and municipal authorities, local residents, and other stakeholders. The Company is taking all possible steps for rigorous preservation of the environment and for assurance of safety during the construction.

The new research facilities will consolidate the drug discovery capabilities currently located in the cities of Osaka and Tsukuba, and serve as the center of Takeda's global research network. Through the establishment of this world-class facility and its outstanding drug discovery capabilities, Takeda will further increase its dynamism and global appeal to researchers of all levels.

Through steady implementation of the Management Initiatives of the 2006-2010 Medium-Term Plan, Takeda aims to realize its stated mission of "striving toward better health of individuals and progress of medicine by developing superior pharmaceutical products," as well as its aspiration of being a company that grows together with its shareholders and all other stakeholders.
